Yashasvi Jaiswal, the dynamic Indian opener, stands on the cusp of etching his name in the record books. He is just 97 runs short of becoming the fastest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs, potentially surpassing a 49-year-old record held by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. The stage is set for this historic pursuit at Edgbaston, where India will face England in the second Test starting July 2nd.
Jaiswal's consistent performance has been a bright spot for India, especially during this transitional phase in Test cricket. His recent century in the first Test at Headingley showcased his talent, although it wasn't enough to prevent a five-wicket defeat. Despite setting a challenging target of 371, India was taken by surprise by England's successful chase, spearheaded by Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Joe Root, giving England a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Team India is working hard preparing for the 2nd Test vs England.
Jaiswal's individual form remains a key source of hope for India as they look to level the series at Edgbaston. In his 20 Tests, he has accumulated 1,903 runs at an impressive average of 52.86.
The current record for the fastest Indian to 2,000 Test runs is held by Sunil Gavaskar, who reached the milestone in his 23rd Test in 1976. Gavaskar went on to become the first cricketer to score 10,000 Test runs. Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag follow, having reached the 2,000-run mark in their 25th Tests.
With his elegant strokeplay and composed demeanor, Jaiswal has the opportunity to join these legends and provide a crucial boost for India in a must-win Test.
